Abstract In co-and trigeneration plants with internal combustion engines, waste heat from their cooling system can be fed to a exchanger network for office heating, hot water production, or used in industrial processes. At the same time, care must exerted not cool return fluid below threshold, order avoid piston seizure. this work, is that of gas-engine large dairy plant Rome. Since its daily and weekly production schedule subject several changes, temperature control both precise efficient. A thermal-hydraulic, dynamic (i.e. time-dependent) model was developed Matlab/Simulink, obtain instantaneous pressure, mass flowrate fluids along network. The approach mixed, lumped-parameter description hydraulic thermal networ, finite volumes exchangers. has been verified validated experimental, steady-state data results found satisfactory.
